Amit Panghal was born into a farming family, with his father being Mr. Vijender Singh Panghal. Amit’s older brother, Ajay Panghal, a former amateur boxer now serving in the Indian Army, inspired Amit to pursue boxing in 2007 at the Sir Chhoturam Boxing Academy.
Career Achievements
Early Career: Amit Panghal rose to prominence by winning a gold medal at the Indian National Boxing Championship in 2017. He went on to secure a bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Boxing Championships, earning a spot at the 2017 AIBA World Championships.
2018: Panghal won a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games (ASIAD), becoming the Asian champion in the flyweight (49kg) category. He also claimed a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
2019: He became the first Indian boxer to win a silver medal at the AIBA World Boxing Championships (52kg), losing to Olympic champion Shakhobidin Zoirov (Uzbekistan) in the final. He also won a gold medal at the 2019 Asian Boxing Championships.
2020: Panghal secured a gold medal at the Boxing World Cup in Cologne, Germany, and qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
2021: He won a silver medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai, again losing to Zoirov in the final.
